How oil spills happen: -Equipment breaks down and a tanker may get stuck in shallow water, then when the tanker starts up again it may have a hole in it because it was scratching up againgst the ground. - When a country might decide to dump gallons and gallons of oil into another countries oceans during a war. -Terroists may dump oil into another countries ocean because they want to get there attention. -Illegal dumpers are people who dump oil in the oceans because they do not want to pay for the proper way to decompose there waste oil.
